Record Turnout for Fakenham’s Easter Sunday Festival of Running
Active Fakenham’s Easter Sunday Festival of Running, featuring an official UK Athletics 5K race, a 1K Fun Run and the popular Toddle ’n’ Trike event for under-fives, has been hailed a fantastic success by organisers and participants alike.
Despite chilly conditions, record numbers took part, with the town centre coming alive with enthusiastic runners of all ages and abilities, creating a vibrant and uplifting atmosphere throughout the morning.
Richard Crook of Active Fakenham said:
“We were concerned that the weather might put people off, but we had a fantastic turnout from both locals and visitors. The event is all about inclusivity, and it was great to see such a wide range of abilities taking part with so many smiling faces.
We had around 350 entries for the main 5K race and approximately 160, mostly children, in the Fun Run. All children received a Fakenham souvenir Easter goody bag, which added to the sense of occasion.”
One local family perfectly captured the spirit of the event, with three generations taking part. Ellie ran the 5K, her son Teddy—celebrating his 8th birthday—joined the 1K Fun Run, while his uncle Tom ran alongside him. Their mother, Debbie, is a regular Active Fakenham volunteer and was helping throughout the day at the Active Fakenham stall.
Tom said:
“Running with Teddy was really special. The atmosphere was fantastic, and it was great to be part of such a friendly, community event.”
Active Fakenham would like to extend a huge thank you to the volunteers and sponsors who made the event possible. More than 65 volunteers supported the day, including a dedicated team from Runners Next The Sea, helping to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Debbie, who also supports many Active Fakenham events, added:
“There’s a real sense of pride in seeing the town come together like this. From the runners to the volunteers, everyone plays a part—and that’s what makes it such a special event.”
With the town centre buzzing and strong community spirit on display, the event once again demonstrated the power of local collaboration and participation. The Fakenham Ospreys Canoe Club added to the spectacle by completing the Fun Run while carrying two canoes, while FADLOS showcased their upcoming production of Frozen. A range of other local community groups also took part, helping to create a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere.
In response to forecast windy conditions, organisers took precautionary measures and scaled back some elements of the event infrastructure. However, the day passed safely and without incident.
